This article analyzes the concept of "labor" from the linguacultural and cognitive perspectives, using Russian and Karakalpak proverbs as a source. The study explores the semantic structure and axiological content of the concept, as well as its national and cultural characteristics. Methods of semantic and component analysis, as well as a comparative approach, are employed. Particular attention is paid to the binary opposition "labor - laziness," which serves as a regulatory mechanism of paremiological discourse. It is established that labor is positively assessed and understood as a basic moral value, while laziness is seen as a socially disapproved anti-norm. Differences are manifested in the emphases: the Russian tradition emphasizes individual effort and personal responsibility, while the Karakalpak tradition emphasizes the collective significance of labor and the social conditioning of behavior. The results confirm the universality of the concept's core value system, even in ethnoculturally specific ways of representing it.
